House Management: how to organise a private residence
People, maintenance, supplies and protocols must work as one system, not as isolated tasks.
The residence as a system
House Management means directing the daily running of a residence: staff, maintenance, inventories, suppliers, purchasing, arrival protocols, security, events and communication with the owner. The aim is a whole that behaves predictably, where problems surface before they reach the client.
Roles and responsibilities
Every position needs a realistic description, reporting lines and limits. A housekeeper, chef, gardener, chauffeur or technician may each be excellent on their own and still generate friction if nobody sets priorities, hours, cover arrangements and shared standards.
Preventive maintenance
Climate control, pool, garden, electrical systems, water, home automation and security all require verifiable schedules. Preventive maintenance reduces emergencies, but it also protects privacy: it avoids improvised interventions once the family is already in the residence.
Preparing an arrival
A well-prepared arrival connects technical checks, cleaning, bedrooms, linen, provisions, flowers, transport, schedule and staff briefing. Luxury is not that each task exists, but that all of them happen in the right order.
